When the market goes upwards, that is because of particular events taking place during that period. That high could be short-term and you could benefit from it for that particular period. Say, if you have some investment that does not have high growth potential in the long term, you could redeem them at the best price.

However, you do not redeem long-term investments with high growth potential for short-term gain that could arise on securities. Another thing that you could do is trade your short-term investment for again during that period and invest the profits and base amount in a new investment that could help you with wealth creation.

Now, if this high is looking to be more stable, and you are expecting a further rise in the market, you should buy an investment at lower prices and sell them for higher prices. This is possible when you have foresight for higher market trends. It is a general practice for investors to pick up stocks when the market is heading upwards and then selling them at higher prices to make short-term gains. However, the equity market involves risk, and you should make your research thoroughly before putting any money in these stocks.
