Domestic institutional investors were net buyers of Indian equities in May, making it the third successive month of DII buying in equities. Till date in May, DIIs have net bought equities to the tune of Rs.1,888 crore. This comes on top of net purchase of Rs.5,204 crore in March and Rs.11,089 crore in April. Prior to that, the DIIs were consistent sellers in equities even as FPIs were buying aggressively. Flows into equity MFs have been favourable.

Ironically, during the last 3 months, foreign portfolio investors or FPIs shied away from Indian stocks. They have been consistent net sellers in March and May continues to be net selling by the FPIs. What is also noteworthy is that the sustained market resilience is attracting a lot of retail investors too. Mutual fund inflows too have been extremely strong in equity funds which is facilitating increasing DII inflows into the equity side of the market.
