Did you know that despite the heavy FPI selling in FY22 to the tune of Rs.140,000 crore, the Nifty closed 18.9% higher for FY22. In fact, the good news is that Nifty made amazing gains despite negative headwinds like heavy FPI selling, the COVID-19 relapse, Omicron virus, sharp spike in inflation, margin pressure across key sectors, Russia Ukraine war, Fed hawkishness etc.

Here is the list of stocks that gained the most in FY22 among Nifty stocks.

Company

HINDALCO

74.24

TITAN

56.40

APOLLOHOSP

55.59

The gainers are heavy on commodities and that is hardly surprising. Companies like Tata Steel, Hindalco, JSW Steel and ONGC were among the top gainers amidst rising commodity prices. Bajaj Finserv was the top gainer for the month even as Bharti Airtel gained amidst improving market presence and giving a run for the money to Jio. Among other plays, Sun Pharma and Tech Emerged as the defensive positive bets for the year.

However, the year FY22 had its share of losers too. Here is a list of losers on Nifty.

HDFC group has been under a cloud with two of the group companies coming under fire. HFDC saw pressure in preparation of the merger into HDFC Bank. In other cases, the losses were largely due to spike in input costs. Auto players and cement players were the worst hit due to a spike in the price of steel, fuel and power. For FMCG players like Hindustan Unilever and Britannia, the losses were due to a spike in crude and input food products.
