With Air India out of the way, the focus now shifts to the divestment of LIC and BPCL. Both these deals are supposed to happen in the last quarter of fiscal year FY22 and the government continues to hold its stance. In the case of the LIC IPO, it is the actuarial valuation that is pending. Otherwise, even the appointment of legal advisors, merchant bankers and registrars is completed already. Necessary approvals are also taken.

In the case of BPCL, the government will be selling its entire 52.98% stake in BPCL and the valuation has been a major bone of contention. The employees union of BPCL have already been complaining that the government was giving away the company at a throw away price to the private sector. Both the deals are critical if the government has to achieve its divestment target of Rs.175,000 crore in this fiscal year.

The big pending issue in both the case is the due diligence followed by the road shows. In the case of BPCL, Vedanta has been an interested party but many of the global oil majors have not shown much interest despite the strong refining and marketing franchise that BPCL possesses.

Expect LIC IPO Anytime in around the Budget day.. Either before or after as the same involves a lengthy process. But sure in this FY as GOI is completely behind this.
