Akasa Air, backed by the India’s most famous investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, will be starting live operations from the 07th of August. It will start with 2 flights in the Mumbai to Ahmedabad sector and the ticket sales have already opened. The minimum one-way fare on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route has been set at Rs3,948, which does not make it a low cost airline in any way because other players like Go First and Indigo are available at much lower rates. Currently, there are 15 flights that are active on this route on a daily basis.

IN the first phase, Akasa Air will connect 4 cities. Apart from Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Akasa will also cover the Bengaluru Kochi route in phase 1. IT has also secured 3 parking bays in the Delhi airport so that is likely to also become part of the Akasa network very soon, although we have to await the announcement. Broadly, Akasa will look to connect metros with tier II and tier III cities across India. Akasa has already ordered 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Former Indigo CEO, Aditya Ghosh, will be one of the key drivers of Akasa.
