In 2003, the Unit Trust of India was bifurcated into two components- the SUUTI and the UTI Mutual Funds or UTI MF. The UTI Mutual Fund was registered with the SEBI on 1st February 2003. UTI Mutual Fund is backed by 4 of the largest financial institutions – SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda & LIC each holding an 18.24% share in the fund house. The US-based T. Rowe Price Group Inc holds a 26% stake in it through its wholly-owned subsidiary, T Rowe Price Global Investments Services Ltd. UTI Mutual Fund is the 8th largest mutual fund house by asset size in India. The fund house manages assets worth (AUM) of Rs 1.33 lakh crore for the quarter ending June 2020.

UTI Mutual Fund offers approx. 177 schemes to investors. It offers 25 equity schemes, 119 debt schemes, 28 hybrid schemes, and 5 ETFs, Gold & Fund of funds schemes. It was the first to offer a Unit Linked Insurance Plan or ULIP in 1971 with added life and accident cover.  Though it's very difficult and frankly unfair to filter the best UTI funds since the choice is subjective, given below are the ones I personally believe to be the best performing ones-

  • UTI Equity Fund
  • UTI MNC Fund
  • UTI Corporate Bond Fund
  • UTI Value Opportunities Fund Direct
  • UTI Long Term Equity Fund (Tax Saving)
  • UTI Gilt Fund
  • UTI Transportation and Logistics Fund
