Professional tax is the tax that a state government levies on all individuals who earn a living. It is a type of tax that needs to be paid by each and every individual earning income. The calculation of this tax and the amount collected differs from one state to another. However, the limit for professional tax has been set to Rs. 2500 per year, by the government.

As it is a state subject, there are a number of states that do not levy professional tax in India.
