Dish TV has received a notice from the Indian government to pay Rs.4164 crore towards licence fees. In its regulatory filing with the stock exchanges, the company has informed that the amount of Rs.4164 core has been charged as license fee from the date of issue of the DTH license till financial year 2018-19.

This amounts included the license fee payable by Dish TV and also the accrued interest on the license fees and the government had apparently given them 15 days to pay the sum to the government. Dish TV, meanwhile, said that it is studying the communication of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to decide on course of action.

Dish TV disclosed that the I&B Ministry had issued a demand notice in 2014 for the licence fee payable from the date of issuance of DTH licence till FY 2012–13. However, at that time, Dish TV had challenged the order in the TDSAT which had granted a stay. That stay continues to be in force, although it is not clear if that argument would be valid.
