Why has Fitch upgraded the Indian economy?

Let me clarify here that Fitch Ratings has not upgraded the ratings of Indian economy. It has only raised the outlook for India's long-term foreign currency ratings from negative to stable. But, even that is positive because it is now veering around to the view of S&P and Moody’s. Fitch feels India handled the crisis better than most economies.

Fitch has maintained its rating of BBB- on India, with no changes. The outlook upgrade by Fitch was triggered by the robust recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic shock. If you leave aside inflation for the time being, real driver of growth has been high nominal GDP growth. That is where India has scored in the point book of Fitch.
