Vodafone Idea for the Mar-21 quarter has reported net loss of Rs.-7,023 crore as the competition continues to restrain growth and ARPUs. This loss in the Mar-21 quarter is narrower than the loss of Rs.-11,644 in Mar-20 quarter. However, this loss is much wider than Rs.4,532 crore reported by Spice Jet in the sequential Dec-20 quarter. Clearly, the gap between ARPUs and costs has been moving unfavourably for some time now.
For the full year FY21, Vodafone reported a net loss of Rs.44,233 core on top of a loss of Rs.73,878 crore in FY20. With a total loss of Rs.120,000 crore in 2 years, the company has a negative net worth of Rs.39,000 crore. In short, the company admitted it is in dire straits and its ability as a going concern had come under a cloud. This was admitted by the both the promoters, Vodafone PLC and Aditya Birla Group, after improvements were elusive.
