India's benchmark 10-year bond yields gave indications of rates hardening in India as the yields rose to a 20-month high level of 6.49%. The sharp spike was influenced by heavy government debt pipeline and hawkish statements from the US Fed. Bond yields had last scaled 6.50% in April 2020. One reason for the spike has also been that these yields have been driven up by variable rate repos at the short end and secondary market selling by RBI.
