Actually, the GMR Group plans to invest Rs.6,300 crore in Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport that will help to expand the capacity of the airport to 3.40 crore passengers per year by 2024. The investment will go towards expanding the domestic and the international sides of the airport facilities over the next few years. For funding the expansion, the Hyderabad Airport plans to raise $300 million via overseas bonds.

The top management has said that passenger traffic had touched a peak of 2.15 crore passengers during FY20, although its current capcity is just to handle 1.20 crore passengers per year. So the expansion to 3.40 crore passengers per year should be good enough for the next few years to come. FY21 saw a de-growth but the passenger traffic is expected to get back to FY20 levels by next year and cross 2 crore by 2023.
