With the market sentiments being badly hit by the second mutated strain of the virus, there is some hope coming from BionTech, one of the partners in the Pfizer vaccine. BionTech of Germany has confirmed that even if the UK strain of the virus was really a challenge, the actual vaccine for the same should not take too long. That assuaged the markets.

In fact, BionTech of Germany is fairly confident that its vaccine would work effectively against the mutated strain recently found in the UK with some minor adjustments which should not be too time-consuming. BionTech is confident that if required, they can make tweaks to the current vaccine in 6 weeks assuming the UK strain is unique.

The CEO of BionTech expressed confidence, based on their detailed research, that adapting the existing vaccine for the UK virulent strain would only require some very minor variations. BionTech has specifically noted that the proteins on the UK variant were 99% matching with the prevailing strains, so changes at best will be incremental.

As a result, the probability that the current Pfizer-BionTech vaccine would work on the UK strain was pretty high according to a statement issued by the company. BionTech is also quite confident that in a worst-case scenario, they would be able to develop a vaccine for the UK variant in less than 6 weeks; something that actually flattered markets on Tuesday.
